Frequently asked questions

What is a DNS leak?+

When you use a VPN, your DNS lookups (turning site names into IP addresses) should go through the VPN. A DNS leak is when they instead go to your ISP’s servers — revealing every site you visit even though your traffic looks encrypted.

How does this DNS leak test work?+

The page asks your browser to resolve unique hostnames on a domain we run authoritatively. Whichever DNS server actually asks us is the resolver you’re really using. We show it and flag any that sit outside your VPN.

How do I fix a DNS leak?+

Use a VPN that routes DNS through its own encrypted servers and blocks leaks — JaguarVPN does this on every platform. Our apps force all DNS through the tunnel so nothing reaches your ISP.

Is my data stored?+

No. The test resolvers are held briefly in memory to show your result and then discarded.
