How to remove your personal information from the internet
·2 min read·JaguarVPN Team

Completely disappearing from the internet is essentially impossible — but that’s not really the goal. The goal is to remove the information that exposes you, shrink what’s out there, and make yourself a harder target. That’s very achievable with a methodical afternoon of work. Here’s the order I’d tackle it in.
Start with the biggest exposures
Work top-down — the accounts and listings that reveal the most:
- Delete old accounts you no longer use. Each dormant account is data sitting somewhere waiting to leak. Track them down and close them.
- Opt out of data-broker sites. Search your name and request removal from the people-search sites that list your address and phone number.
- Lock down social media privacy settings, and remove personal details like your address, phone number and birthday from public profiles.
- Ask Google to remove results that expose sensitive personal info, where its removal tools allow.
Then reduce new exposure
Cleaning up is only half the job — you also want to stop refilling the pool. Use a tracker blocker and a VPN so less new data is collected as you browse (see what is a data broker). Give out less: a secondary email for sign-ups, minimal detail on forms, and no loyalty card you don’t need. Every bit you don’t share is a bit that can’t be sold.
Keep it up
Data brokers re-list people over time, so this isn’t entirely one-and-done — revisit the big opt-outs once or twice a year. It’s a bit of upkeep, but the payoff is real: less spam, fewer scam attempts that rely on knowing your details, and a smaller target for anyone who means harm. Pair it with the habits in how to protect your identity online.
