How to safely access your work network from home

Some work systems — internal tools, file servers, databases — live inside a company’s private network and aren’t reachable from the open internet. To use them from home, you need a secure bridge in. Here’s how that works and how to do it without creating security problems.

How company remote access works

The standard tool is a business VPN provided by your employer. It creates an encrypted tunnel from your device into the company network, so your laptop behaves as if it’s plugged in at the office — able to reach internal systems while everything stays encrypted in transit. 4. On public Wi-Fi, connect before you start work so your session is encrypted from the first moment.
5. Lock your screen when you step away, especially in shared spaces.
